A bit about Bethany

My name is Bethany and I am currently studying Engineering at university. I have a passion for Maths, Science, and all things STEM related! Being a female in this industry is rare as it is such a male-dominated field, which is why I am passionate about passing on my understanding in Maths and Science to help grow the field and to inspire others to go into STEM. I am an experienced online tutor and have worked on other online platforms. My main teaching system is about showing examples of questions and problems, solving them with the student, and then supporting the student as they solve the problem independently. Although that is the main base I follow for my lessons, I do adapt the lesson to support the student needs. Having a good understanding of learning difficulties, I work with positive reinforcement so the students will feel confident with the topics being taught. I have done tutoring work with many exam board curriculums such as AQA, OCR, and Edexcel and always tailor the work to the student's exam board. I am also very adaptable in working with people who have learning difficulties such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. Having dyslexia myself, I know the struggle of learning a subject that hasn't clicked for you yet. For me, that subject was GCSE English where in Year 10 I was failing the subject, however, I learned how to work with my dyslexia and finished with a high passing grade. From this, I can easily adapt my teaching to help best support my students as I have also worked with those who have ADHD and Autism. I specialise in GCSE mathematics with a love of algebra and fractions. I try to ensure to include different activities to make the learning more interactive and try to ensure to learn the student's learning style to tailor the lessons to best suit them. My lessons usually work with a format of a starting activity to work on what we did in the previous lesson, then I start with learning objectives and work though questions with the students using the I do, we do, you do method, allowing them to see example of the question working on them together and finally allowing them to attempt the question alone, at the end of the lesson I usually put in a exam style question that I would like them to talk me through and teach it to me so they can demonstrate their own understanding. I started tutoring in 2022 when I started university studying engineering. Prior to that, I had been tutoring friends and family. I have a passion for teaching and love to see how my students progress. What I love most about teaching Maths is seeing a student's light bulb moment when they understand the topic and feel confident with it. My main teaching style is the I do, We do, you do method, as this allows me to work with the student hands-on to make sure that they understand the work throughout and can work independently with it.
