A bit about Lauren M

KS3 - KS5 English Language and Literature Main experience of AQA (plus marking experience with this exam board). Also some experience with IGCSE. I love teaching English because there is always something new to discover. No matter how many times I may have read a poem, play or book, discussing it with each new student brings fresh insights. I pride myself on my integrity, patience and kindness. My years of experience have given me the opportunity to nurture great relationships with my students. By working collaboratively, finding common ground and engaging authentically, students develop confidence in their ability. I will always bring enthusiasm to our tutoring sessions and look forward to learning about what inspires you. 1ST CLASS MA CREATIVE WRITING, UNIVERSITY OF PORTSMOUTH, SEPTEMBER 2018 – SEPTEMBER 2019 CHARTER TEACHER PSHE AWARD, 2015 In recognition of the contribution made to creating and sharing a diverse range of resources through KS3 and 4: sex education, interview techniques, budgeting, citizenship, mindfulness. Supporting young people to believe in themselves and foster a love of language is the cornerstone on which I build all the learning experiences I offer. Some testimonials from past tuition pupils and parents: “We are so pleased for our son and his recent GCSE English result. Lauren helped him improve his grade from a D to an A! But more importantly his confidence improved so much. He was struggling with English but after one term of extra tuition with Lauren we could see a noticeable improvement. He would look forward to lessons with enthusiasm. This was due to Lauren’s ability to engage him with the subject and motivate him. We would thoroughly recommend Lauren – she is an excellent tutor. We couldn’t be more pleased and thank you for giving him the confidence that he so much needed.” “Her knowledge, passion, flair for her subject are exceptional. She adds to that great professionalism, expertise in GCSE teaching techniques and proven results. Engaging my teenage son in anything is difficult enough but she did in her subject and he went from loathing it at school to choosing it as an A level choice in the space of a year. He is now at college and loving the subject. Lauren not only motivated him but also empowered him to use his natural abilities. Their time together has given him a great foundation from which to continue his education. Punctuality and reliability were also second to none.” “A brilliant tutor. My daughter got As in English Literature and Language thanks to her. She was always there when Freya needed her and she builds a real rapport with her students. She is an excellent teacher who really cares and gives pupils the help they need when they are floundering a little. We would highly recommend Lauren Jones as a tutor.” • Achieving 100% pass rates for new English Language and Literature GCSEs grades 4-9 in first year. • Creating and implementing whole school literacy policy to include reading ambassadors, targeted intervention for PPI, and the development of the Accelerated Reading programme. • Analysing the whole school reading data and using this to inform teaching CPD on supporting pupil progress in 4 key reading skill areas (comprehension, vocabulary, inference, analysis) in “an accessible and enthusiastic fashion” (SENCO, 2015). • Researching and running a wide range of extra- curricular opportunities including: sailing on the Solent, Model United Nations, Shakespeare Club, Book Group, Lowry visit, County Debating Competition. One parent recently passed on their thanks for my “concern for their son’s success and extra activities…stood out as excellent examples of leadership”
