A bit about Bridget H

I am a Maths and Physics teacher living in Cornwall. Presently teaching at Truro independent school. I have a love for Maths and numbers that is seen in my enthusiastic teaching approach. At present, I teach Edexcel iGCSE and Alevel Maths(Pure and Mechanics), alongside the GCSE AQA GCSE Physics. I also have experience teaching the AQA further Maths GCSE. My degree is in Theoretical Physics so half Maths, half Physics. I have 3 children of my own (aged 17-25). In any spare time I have, I have a strong love for swimming and running. Maths: iGCSE Mathematics (I teach at a school with international boarders so we deliver the international GCSE) Alevel Pure and Mechanics Mathematics GCSE Physics AQA Further Maths GCSE I like to “wake up” students with a thoughtful starter. Often a quick fire starter or some mental maths task. For the older students, I will often start with a prior knowledge check. Clear objectives will be lay out. Depending on the topic, specific activities/learning paths will be given. Quite often I will demonstrate relevant problems and then lead students through a learning curve until they can actively and independently work through all of the relevant material. The end of lessons are vital, I provide summaries and questioning to insure they have absorbed the relevant information and processes. I have been tutoring for approximately 3 years. The satisfaction of starting a long complex question, going through several methodical processes and coming out with an answer. With Maths there is a right and wrong, which to many is an attractive aspect of the subject. That, and I just love numbers and patterns. Structured and somewhat traditional. I am very energetic within the classroom and will always be active throughout lessons. Building relationships with students and watching them develop over time. And receiving messages on result days letting you know that they have been successful. To give focus on the purpose of learning and to reinforce a students growth and mindset The energy and the fact I will always be proactively helping students in lessons. I will always put in extra time for students. Over the years I have taught a huge variety of students. At my previous school, I worked with a student from age 11-16. When they arrived at the school they could barely do the 2 times table. When they left, they had a gcse in Maths. To the other end of the scale, to an Alevel student who only dropped 1 mark in her entire Alevel.
