A bit about Mohamed E

I am currently an assistant lecturer in Engineering at Coventry University teaching aeronautical and automotive engineering. This includes teaching basics of math, physics and chemistry to help students with different levels of knowledge to understand fundamental concepts thoroughly. I am fortunate to have completed my PhD from Loughborough University in aeronautical engineering and automotive engineering in 2021. I have been teaching part-time for years and now fortunate to be teaching as a full-time job as well! I specialise in anything to do with engineering. This includes mathematics from basic levels of algebra to advanced calculus. Physics is also essential for teaching engineering from Newton’s laws of motion to helicopter blade speeds! My teaching also covers alternative fuels and conveying concepts including molar masses and exothermic reactions. I also help students with other things such as report formatting and general careers advice. I have been tutoring since grade 11! I studied IB in my final years of school and started by teaching university students undertaking business degrees math including basic algebra and calculus. This continued part-time but never previously through an official platform. I also taught English, ICT, History and Geography at GCSE level. Eventually I decided to take on teaching full-time which is why I decided to undertake a PhD. I teach university students undertaking a wide range of engineering degrees. This includes aeronautical, automotive and mechanical engineering. I have taught students undertaking Bachelor’s Masters and PhDs as well. Most recent school students I have taught are friends who have children in school, this has been mostly teaching Maths to students at GCSE and A-Level. This was mostly done voluntarily. Great teachers! As a student, and I am still learning today, one of the things which made my life easier is when a teacher explained things in a way which was easy to understand. I try to pass on this favour to other students as much as I can and whenever there are challenges to do so I break things down further and help with any fundamental knowledge the student might need. I hold a PhD, bachelors in engineering and an associate fellowship from Advance HE (AFHEA) which is a teaching qualification for higher education. I have also undertaken the GOV.UK prevent training. I have also obtained the “Essential Teaching Skills” teaching qualification while a student and teaching part-time at Loughborough University. My school education includes IB and IGCSEs. The use of practical examples. I have been recently told this more than once. I personally find it helpful when learning something that a practical example from daily life is used to show the significance of what I am learning. Generally, the use of examples is something which can be very useful depending on the approach used. This also means that the student is more likely to remember what they have learned. I also try telling a few jokes to brighten the learning environment! I am fortunate to have generally been successful in my teaching practice. The most recent example is averaging over 95% in my student satisfaction rate from students across mechanical, automotive and aeronautical engineering which is not an easy feat. This is always a huge relief to me as well since I try to frequently update my teaching material based on feedback and by observing student’s learning habits. Making life easier for students. I have been in situations in the past where I have tried to learn a topic and struggled for days or sometimes weeks before coming across a teacher or an industry specialist who explains the concept in a few sentences. I always try to give students a comprehensive answer which is easy to understand. This is not specific to my subject, while I do have personal interests in cars and planes which makes it more fun and relevant. While I do enjoy learning more about things related to the aeronautical and automotive industry, I enjoy a wide range of things outside of this subject area. I play football weekly and was involved in motorsport on a professional level for multiple years. I also enjoy cooking and trying out different recipes at home although this had been to varying levels of success!
