A bit about Alison B

I bring over 20 years experience as a secondary schools science teacher working in state schools and with all abilities. With responsibility for attainment at KS4, I am a GCSE specialist and also offer Biology to A level. I have tutored for 13 years and retired this year to focus solely on tutoring. All sciences at Key Stage 3 and 4 and Biology at A level. I focus on the individual and aim to grow confidence, subject knowledge and understanding, examination skills, and scientific enquiry skills. The lesson is flexible and relates to what the student is currently working on or finding challenging. I can focus on missed work. A typical lesson includes recap from the previous lesson, refreshing subject knowledge or skills, and questions. I use a range of learning styles including videos of practicals. If working face to face rather than online there are greater possibilities for modelling and simple safe practicals. 13 years ago. The range of science subjects is broad and deep. Whilst I love my subject, I get greater pleasure from seeing my students become more confident, overcome challenges and support them to achieve their goals. The role of a tutor is very relational and seeing trust develop between student and tutor is very rewarding. Although I do include formal input when needed, my tutoring style involves a lot of listening so I can notice where the student's current understanding is and then adapt accordingly. I am conversational in teaching style but keep the responsibility for learning with the student. It is about equipping them to be effective learners. I give them confidence. I always wanted to teach when I was at school. When my children began secondary school I was inspired again as I could see that as a teacher I could make a difference and that my work would be a valuable investment in the next generation. My family come first. I also enjoy music, dance and pilates. I am a dog lover and walk daily with.my terriers Years 9-13. At GCSE I cover AQA, OCR and Edexcel. At A level I focus on AQA and OCR.
