A bit about David J

My lessons are engaging, interactive and tailored to suit you or your child’s academic needs. With my friendly, patient and thorough approach, students quickly make progress evidenced through results. I aim to engender a love of learning in all my students and through the interactive and fun nature of my lessons students will retain information and improve their skills. Homework can be provided after every session to strengthen knowledge and deepen understanding if required. I am a postgraduate with over 20 years experience teaching students from 5 to 18. As well as the Eleven Plus (all exam boards), and English and Mathematics at Key Stages 2 and 3, I have taught Drama, Media Studies and Religion and Philosophy at GCSE and A level. I have worked in several UK schools as a school leader, pastoral leader and as a head of department. Lessons can be from 1 to 2 hours and are specifically designed for each student's needs. The first lesson will be used to establish what learning styles are most appropriate, any focus on specific topics and the aims and objectives for future lessons. Regular updates on progress are provided. I started tutoring when my foster daughter needed help with her English and Maths GCSEs. This was about 15 years ago and things grew from there. I moved into Key Stage 2 teaching and the 11 Plus after talking with parents outside my son's school. I've successfully steered scores of students in the right direction since then! I live for the 'light bulb' moments! When a students grasps a new concept or achieves a mark or grade they are really proud of, it makes all the effort worthwhile. My teaching style is fun and friendly. Underpinning that style are well researched methods of learning and a ton of experience that helps me quickly zone in on what works for a particular individual. - The 'Light Bulb' moment when a students truly understands a new concept. - A piece of work that a student can be proud of. - Finding out that a student has achieved the desired outcome (a top grade or entry to their establishment of choice). Everybody can learn - learning is an active process where students build their knowledge by using their prior experiences and understanding. I facilitate learning by creating an environment that encourages exploration, hands-on activities, and collaborative problem-solving. I focus on understanding the thought processes and conceptual frameworks so that students develop a deep understanding and can achieve real success. Students enjoy my teaching and look forward to my lessons. I am lighthearted and fun to work with.
