A bit about Harry S

My greatest success was taking a student studying A-level chemistry on a B grade, and working with him to help him achieve an A*. I believe this was due to the emphasis I place on ensuring my students actually understand the content they have to learn, rather than just memorising it. I do this through a range of techniques, such as asking my students to try to teach me the topic we’ve just been over - you know you understand something fully when you can explain it to someone else! Whilst I do teach the three sciences and maths, my specialism (and favourite subject to teach) is chemistry. Chemistry is the central science, and is the perfect bridge between biology and physics, yet is also the subject that students often struggle with the most. Helping students finally understand concepts such as entropy, bonding and the maths that underpins chemistry is a truly rewarding experience. My lessons will begin with a recap of last lesson, as well as going through any homework I have set (which will often be brief, unless requested otherwise). We will then progress onto the content of the lesson, where I will use a mix of explaining on the whiteboard, exam questions and videos to help my student fully understand what we are learning. At the end of the topic, I will ask my students to explain a concept to me in their own words - my preferred way of testing their understanding.
