A bit about Miriam T

I have an English Literature degree from Durham University. I have more than three years worth of online tutoring experience (with MyTutor) for both GCSE and A Level students, cementing strong communication and collaboration skills. I achieved an A* and a 9 (we still had some grades back then!) in my GCSE English Literature and Language respectively, as well as an A* in English Literature A Level. I have recently completed a Masters in Acting (performance) at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. I have taught students wishing to learn English as a foreign language, as well as tutored Drama, English literature and English Language from ages 10-18. Whilst at university, I directed English and Drama workshops at Parkside Academy (Durham), giving me the chance to develop my leadership skills (there were usually about 20 students in the group) and plan engaging and exciting sessions which challenged and enthused the students. This experience further helped me hone my skills in bringing English to life, establishing ways in which to engage most effectively with each student. In my final year of school, I ran drama workshops at an Ridgeway (an SEN school in Bedford) for students aged 11-18. This experience encouraged me to be creative and thoughtful in my planning and content. I coached Year 11 GCSE drama students at Bedford Modern School, and I also volunteered at three primary schools (Edith Cavell Primary School, Springfield Primary School, Bedford Modern Junior School), meaning I have experience with students of multiple ages and abilities. I ran Drama workshops at HM Prison Low Newton for a week in June 2022, spending time with inmates aged 23-70. This developed my interpersonal skills and my ability to overcome obstacles and challenges. I specialise in exam technique, Shakespeare and poetry. My dissertation focused on the study of modern adaptations of Shakespeare, and I have taught students exam technique from multiple exam boards, such as AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas. In my opinion, successful English students have the ability to fuse their own ideas and flair with the structure and criteria dictated by the exam board. I am passionate about students reaching their potential and fulfilling their dreams - it is my job to hopefully play a tiny part in facilitating that. Whether it is mock papers, exercises, close analysis, essay technique or Shakespeare - I am here to help! A little bit about me... I am an enthusiastic, bubbly tutor - I aim to make my students feel comfortable and relaxed, so they feel happy to ask me any questions and share their thoughts and ideas in our sessions. I am one of three sisters, and can usually be found talking to new people, eating ice cream or adventuring around London. I have a diploma in musical theatre, and some of my all-time favourite musicals include Les Mis, Come From Away and Kinky Boots. I am most at home with my friends and my family, and I love travelling, trying new foods, rollercoasters and going on spontaneous nights out. I am also a writer, and have written my own play, as well as monologues for the National Youth Theatre and Purple Radio. One of my greatest dreams is to swim with whales. I also attempted to get into running during lockdown with the Couch to 5K, and still occasionally go for a 'light jog' around London - but the less said on that the better.
