A bit about Oliver B

Hi! My name's Oliver, and I've been teaching English as a second language for just over three years now. I'm TEFL-certified, and have previously taught at two different schools in Taiwan. I've taught students from as young as three up to adults, and everything in between. Whatever your reasons for studying English, I'm happy to customise each lesson to help you meet your language learning goals! My favourite part of being an English teacher is seeing my students grow and develop their confidence. Hearing them tell me about their day without having to stop and think about the correct grammar to use, or showing me the certicate they received after passing a challenging exam, is what motivates me to continue teaching. In the classroom, when I see my students with a smile on their face while they enjoy learning English, I always remember why I find teaching so rewarding. I'm happy to change my lessons to suit each individual students interests and goals. This could mean reviewing vocabulary and grammar related to travel, followed by lots of practice role-playing as tourists, immigration officers, or waiters - so my students have confidence when travel abroad. Or it can mean finding fun, interactive activities for younger students, so they can learn with a smile on their face. Or sometimes we can go-over textbooks together, and I'll provide support, additional explanations, and examples to make sure you really understand what you're reading. They love my energy during the class, and how I consistently offer positive encouragement alongside effective correction of any mistakes they've made. Striking the balance between making sure students realise they've made a mistake that needs fixing, while making sure they maintain and grow their confidence in the language, is especially important for younger students. Many students (or their parents) have said they appreciate how patient I am during the lessons, too - making sure to meet each individual student at their own, personal level, and to never push them to meet arbitrary or inappropriate expectations.
