A bit about Mariyam

Hi everyone! My name is Mariyam, I’m a current FY1 doctor. I graduated 1st decile of my cohort and I have a keen interest in teaching with 6 years teaching experience. I won the extracurricular teaching award for the medical cohort. I have undertaken interview preparation for the past 6 years, both for widening access and official medical school interviews, both MMI and panel. I have undertaken national teaching initiatives for medical students globally. If there are any particular times you want to do the lessons, please let me know, happy to work around it. My interests are in helping with medical interview preparation, medical topics for all 5 years and help with starting an academic career (carrying out audits, presenting at conferences). At every step, we will discuss your aims and create a list of objectives that you want to meet. I will personalise the lessons so they will suit your needs and we will work together to meet your objectives. I have conducted teaching for all year levels in medical school, years 1-5. I have conducted interview preparation for both MMI and panel interviews. I have interviews for various years on the widening access to medicine committee. I have interviewed for the official medical school interviews for 2 consecutive years. 1. Establish what you’d like to achieve from our lessons 2. Establish prior knowledge on the topic (medical topics- mini quizzes, interviews-role plays) 3. Identify areas of good practice and areas of improvement. 4. Using the above, create a list of aims and objectives and a realistic timeline to achieve these. 5. We will use practical methods of learning, I.E. using real life cases and scenarios (very little PowerPoint teaching, more practice, practice, practice!) 6. I will collate a list of resources to use that you can use for self-directed learning. 7.We will record all the learning points at the end of the session and consolidate them before we start the next session. 8. I am very happy to mould my teaching style to suit your needs :)
