A bit about Dr Harriet

I am a GP Trainee in the South East of England. I tutor in human biology GCSE and A-level, UCAS/interview preparation for medical school applications and undergraduate medicine. I am passionate about teaching and believe that everyone has the ability to learn new knowledge and skills. I have been to medical school, got the t-shirt and want to help other budding doctors out there! I have spent time out of my postgraduate medical training to teach medical undergraduates as well as providing tutoring to students wanting to apply for medical school and for the entrance tests/ interviews for several years. I specialise in tutorials for how to apply for UK medical schools, entrance exams and interview preparation. I have a passion for all the sciences and tutor up to and including GCSE level. I can adapt and work on specific areas of interest and/or areas that require more understanding. I am a strong believer in creating a relaxed and open learning environment where questions are welcome at any time. I ensure there are clear objectives and aims for each session that are achievable. Throughout the session there I aim to reinforce learning with different techniques including games, repetition and active discussion. Not everyone learns through reading a book or listening to a lecture, I know the feeling and here to help develop learning and understanding in an efficient but fun environment. I have been teaching younger medical students throughout my time at university. Following my foundation years I completed a PG Certificate in Education from the University of Cardiff. I spent some time tutoring undergraduate medical students, as well as school leavers who wanted to attend medical school. I have a PG Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Cardiff. BSc in Endocrinology (2:1) from Imperial College London MBBS in Medicine from Imperial College London Outside of teaching and working within my GP practice, I am a keen actor, spending time acting in my local theatre group. I also play touch rugby at my local club - mainly as a social player rather than a pro, but fun none the less! My students have told me that the thing they like most is my relaxed and open space I create in my sessions. Not every day is a good day, and I appreciate that and will work with and support students where I can. My teaching style depends on the pupil. No one way works for everyone. If you like to listen to me talk and lecture, I will do so. However, if you learn more with activities, discussion and quizzes I will do that too.
