A bit about Gabriel E

With a foundation of a BA (Hons) History and Politics degree, and an MA History degree, I am currently pursuing a PGCE qualification at the University of Oxford. I have completed a number of research projects at degree level, and possess excellent teaching experience. Over the past nine years, I've been involved in tutoring a variety of young people, combining academic expertise with a passion for guiding students towards academic success. My approach involves fostering a supportive and engaging environment, ensuring that students not only master the subject matter, but also develop the skills necessary for lifelong learning. I am dedicated to providing personalised tutoring that meets the needs of each student, making the educational journey both enriching and rewarding. My lessons are meticulously planned to ensure a dynamic and engaging experience (both at school and in a 1-1 environment). I typically begin with a recall activity, followed by an overview of the lesson focus, and interactive discussions which incorporate a variety of source material and multimedia. If the class is assessment focused, then I utilise a response model in order to prepare the student to submit adequate responses to exam questions. The student is encouraged to actively participate in tasks designed to reinforce understanding, and I always take a flexible approach to learning new material depending on the focus of the class. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the belief that education is a transformative journey. I strive to create a pedagogical environment that transcends the transfer of information. By integrating student-centric methodologies, fostering a culture of inquiry, and emphasising experiential learning, I aim to kindle a passion for discovery. My philosophy extends beyond the curriculum, focusing on nurturing critical thinking skills, resilience, and a deep understanding of the subject matter. In essence, I see teaching not only as the transmission of knowledge but as the sculpting of inquisitive minds poised for lifelong learning. My students resonate deeply with my teaching style because it goes beyond the core knowledge - I prioritise cultivating a sense of confidence in everyone that is in my classroom. By creating an environment where questions are encouraged, critical thinking is valued, and individual perspectives are acknowledged, I aim to empower students to actively engage with the subject matter. This approach not only instills a love for history, but also builds a solid foundation of self-assurance in their academic journey. My teaching style revolves around creating an interactive and inclusive learning environment. I prioritise engagement through discussions, encouraging critical analysis, and tailoring my approach to accommodate diverse learning styles. By incorporating real-world examples and promoting a supportive atmosphere, I aim to inspire a genuine passion for the subject and empower students to succeed. One of my most rewarding successes in teaching was witnessing a significant improvement in a student's confidence and academic performance. Through personalised guidance, adaptive teaching methods to suit their learning style, and fostering a supportive academic relationship, I saw the student not only excel in the subject matter but also develop a newfound enthusiasm for learning. It reinforced my belief in the transformative impact of education on individual growth and achievement.
