A bit about Videeka P

Experienced Tutor, specialising in Maths. Currently a Final year university student, studying Economics, Banking and Finance. DBS verified. 6 years of tutoring experience, such as Kumon, Explore learning and Private 1-1 tutoring. I enjoy tutoring and I motivate my students to achieve to the best of their ability. Many of my students obtain A/A* (7/8/9) grades, and all of my students increase their confidence and achieve better school grades. Having had years of experience tutoring, I not only know how to plan a student’s revision but also how to build up a good informal relationship, so they feel comfortable asking me for advice on various matters from revision techniques to exam applications. I set and mark homework targeted to the student`s ability and track the progress of grades. I specialise in teaching Mathematics, especially GCSE. This also includes Primary school students, KS2/KS3. I can assist in 11+ and grammar school exams, as well as tailor lessons to specific exams such as GCSE, SATs and Mocks. As a tutor, my lesson planning process typically follows a structured and adaptable approach tailored to the individual needs and goals of my students. Here's how my lessons usually plan out: Initial Assessment: Before the first session, I conduct an initial assessment to gauge the student's current knowledge, strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. This assessment may involve reviewing previous coursework, discussing goals, or administering diagnostic tests. Goal Setting: Based on the assessment, I work with the student to set clear and achievable learning objectives. These goals help guide the lesson planning process and provide a sense of direction for both the student and me. Customized Lesson Plans: I create personalized lesson plans that align with the student's goals and address their specific needs. These plans outline what topics we will cover, the order of instruction, and the resources or materials we will use. Varied Teaching Methods: During each session, I employ a variety of teaching methods and strategies to keep the lessons engaging and effective. This may include explaining concepts, using visual aids, interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and real-world applications. Practice and Homework Assignments: I assign practice problems, exercises, or homework assignments to reinforce what was learned during the session. Homework serves as an opportunity for the student to apply their knowledge independently and receive feedback during the next session. Continuous Assessment: Throughout the tutoring relationship, I continually assess the student's progress and adjust the lesson plan as needed. If the student has mastered a concept, we can move on to more advanced topics. If they are struggling, I may revisit the material or use alternative teaching methods. Encouragement and Motivation: I provide positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to boost the student's confidence and motivation. I emphasize the importance of effort, resilience, and a growth mindset. Flexibility: I remain flexible in my approach, as each student has unique learning needs. If a student is struggling with a specific topic, we may spend more time on it. If they are excelling in certain areas, we can delve deeper or explore related topics. Communication: Regular communication with the student and, if applicable, their parents or guardians is essential. I provide progress updates, discuss any challenges, and seek feedback to ensure the tutoring is meeting expectations. Goal Review: Periodically, I review the initial goals set with the student to assess progress and make any necessary adjustments to the lesson plan. Celebrating achievements and setting new goals keeps the student motivated. I started tutoring 6 years ago at Kumon, Explore Learning and Mytutor. I had the opportunity to work with students from various age groups and academic backgrounds. This diverse experience allowed me to hone my tutoring skills and develop a deep understanding of how to tailor my teaching to meet each student's unique needs. I quickly realized the impact that one-on-one guidance and support could have on a student's learning journey. I have continued my tutoring career as a private tutor, working closely with students to help them unlock their full potential. My experiences at Kumon, MyTutor, Explore Learning, and now in private tutoring have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and a diverse set of skills, enabling me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students I have the privilege of working with. I am committed to helping them achieve their academic goals and nurturing a lifelong love for learning. Helping Students Overcome Challenges is one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring mathematics, witnessing the transformation of struggling students into confident problem solvers. As a tutor, I get to help students conquer their fear of math and develop the skills and strategies they need to succeed. Mathematics tutoring encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I can guide students to think logically, analyse situations, and develop systematic approaches to solving problems, which are valuable skills both in math and in life. I have the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact on students' lives. In the first lesson, I will assess the stage your child is working at currently. I will also ask the child the method of teaching they find most helpful whether that be through written explanations, exam practise or repeated verbal examples. I ensure my lessons are interactive and engaging allowing students to find maths more accessible. I ensure that students have the understanding needed behind topics and delve deeper into the subject. Being someone who has finished school just recently, I would like to think I would be quite relatable with students making tutoring more comforting for students. I use adaptive teaching which involves tailoring my teaching methods to match the individual learning needs and preferences of each student. I adjust my approach based on their strengths, weaknesses, and pace of learning. A levels: Mathematics (A*), Economics (A*), Computer Science (B), IT(A*) GCSEs: All 9 grades (Maths, English, triple science, Geography, RS, Computer science) Currently studying Economics, Banking and Finance. I teach all Exam boards: - Edexcel - AQA - OCR I teach all year groups from primary school up to year 11 (GCSE) I enjoy dance, painting, embroidery, and sports. My younger sister struggled with mathematics when growing up, I understand the challenges students face when tackling topics and can use my vast knowledge of the subject to help them grapple with their difficulties. When tutoring I ensure I always use a friendly approach to ensure that students feel comfortable enough to ask as many questions so that they can comprehend the topics being taught. I am here to guide students wherever they feel like they need support whether it’s on a particular topic or exam practice and technique. I reassure my students that asking questions is a powerful tool which they need not be afraid of but instead, see as a strengthening technique. Adaptability to students' individual needs and learning paces is highly valued. Flexibility in addressing various learning styles and abilities helps ensure that all students can benefit from the instruction. Encouragement: Positive reinforcement and encouragement play a crucial role in motivating students. Which fosters a growth mindset, praises effort, and celebrates small achievements helping students stay motivated and resilient. 90% of my GCSE students have achieved grade 7 to grade 9 Helping Others Succeed is something I take pride in. Helping my students overcome challenges, improve their understanding of subjects, and achieve academic success. Witnessing my students' progress and growth is often a source of satisfaction. Building Strong Relationships is something I enjoy. I easily develop close and supportive relationships with my students. These connections can lead to mentorship opportunities and the chance to make a positive impact on a student's life. I recognize the significant role I play in shaping a student's educational journey. I love contributing to students' academic achievements, which can have a lasting impact on their future opportunities and careers.
