A bit about Keith R

I base my lesson plans on this widely recognised, tried and tested approach: - concentrating on the key topics, - beginning with starter exercises, - modelling and explaining the subject matter, - completing tasks with the pupil, - setting independent practise questions and scenarios, - reviewing and evaluating, considering common misconceptions, - finishing with a plenary or activity to finish, often with a short, fun 'brain break' between topics. I am a qualified Secondary (KS3 and GCSE) Mathematics Teacher, having previously achieved a 2:1 in Engineering. I also enjoy teaching Primary Maths, the foundation to pretty much everything studied at GCSE level. I have completed several additional teaching-related courses with White Rose Maths, including Bar Modelling, a way of visually demonstrating and explaining otherwise difficult and often abstract concepts. I first started tutoring in 2018, prior to beginning my Teacher Training at Sussex University. As well as tutoring privately, I also volunteered with Action Tutoring, a charity to enable disadvantaged school children to get up to speed and succeed in their SATS and GCSE exams. Initially, I was only tutoring in person, but since the pandemic, online learning has become the norm. Primary and Secondary School Matematics, up to GCSE level, particulary core topics such as fractions, decimals, and percentages. I plan to teach A Level in the future. I utilise a variety of technologies, using a graphics tablet to write and explain concepts and provide examples and answers. I aim to make alll sessions engaging, starting with some quick-fire times-tables to get going, mixing up the resources to keep things fresh, and also using apps such as Kahoot for quizzes to check for understanding.
