A bit about Isabella W

Engagement. If a child isn't responding to one approach, it's on the tutor to create a lesson plan that is a stimulating and memorable experience. I don't believe one size fits all. This is an outdated philosophy I struggled with when I was in school due to my undiagnosed ADHD and Autism. I think it's important to frequently ask the student for feedback so we can discover the most effective teaching methods and tailor them to their needs. I learned I am a more visual learner and have acquired neurodivergent-friendly resources for teaching a diverse range of students. My professional experience as a Nursery Practitioner, working 1-1 with a SEND child, taught me there are infinite ways to achieve the same learning goal. I have spent the last three years studying English and Hispanic studies at the University of Nottingham and the past five months living on a Brazilian Island, immersing myself in the tongue of Portuguese. I was forced to direct my Level of learning during the National lockdowns, where I attained an A in English language and literature, after previously getting a 4 in my GCSEs and being told I wouldn't be accepted into the 6th form. Later I learned I'd been doing this all with Autism and ADHD. I became especially passionate about English because to take the cliche of Matilda, I grew up in a very unstable household which meant I couldn't speak freely so I wrote my thoughts down and read for escapism. I kept a journal since I was seven years old and languages became an extension of this as a way to take power back over my situation as it allowed me to communicate in ways I felt restricted. In 6th form, I founded a Spanish club and volunteered my time there to help children catch up with their learning after lockdown. I also mentored younger kids after the pandemic. At university, I've stayed immersed in my subjects through my religious involvement in Hispanic society, as well as taking the time to write personal essays, such as my latest one on the beauty industry. I am committed to my fitness regime. It's helped me conquer my past struggles with discipline and organization, caused by my ADHD and has improved my overall motivation, discipline and resilience. I read a lot of self-help books. My favourite book I've read is Psycho-Cybernetics which breaks down the science of how our psychology is programmed to limit ourselves with the analogy of computers but urges us to break free of the restraints of self-doubt. To relax I enjoy painting, I find it very therapeutic and let my mind wander. I write personal essays about topics of interest such as the climate of the beauty industry and am a Musical theatre buff.
