A bit about Ella C

I usually begin my teaching sessions with an icebreaker and a game to refresh your memory on the topics we covered in previous classes. Then, we move on to the main content, which may involve revisiting the concepts you learned in school or exploring new ones from the start. To achieve this, I use a combination of whiteboard work, quizzes, questions, and PowerPoint presentations. Once you feel comfortable with your understanding of the new material, we will review it by working on a past paper question. I specialize in aiding students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to adapt their learning to their individual needs. I believe that everyone has the ability to enjoy learning and be academically successful, but some students require the right guidance to succeed and achieve their full potential. There have been a few instances where working with students and schools has been challenging. Currently, I work with a student who has Down Syndrome. He is a wonderful student but attends a mainstream secondary school, which means he is functioning at a year 2 level in his year 9. I teach him maths and science, and although he cannot participate in the same work as his classmates, I work with him on a 1-2-1 level. I adjust the learning based on his interests, particularly animals. Though it can be challenging, by adapting the work and making sure it relates to his interests, he is able to engage and learn essential life skills. One of my biggest passions besides teaching is traveling and exploring new places. Whenever I get a chance, I love to visit new destinations and gain diverse experiences. In the past, I worked as a science teacher at an American summer camp for two months and had an amazing time connecting with students from various backgrounds. I have also been fortunate enough to visit 22 states in America and drove from Boston to LA, enjoying scenic routes and different cultures along the way. Additionally, I am an avid surfer and I try to hit the waves on the English coast at least twice a year to improve my skills. Lastly, I find peace in painting and drawing and enjoy the process of bringing my thoughts to life on paper. Painting is my favorite hobby, but I also enjoy surfing and swimming in the sea whenever I can. I started my teaching career as a swimming instructor, which allowed me to work with a diverse range of children and learn from them. This experience helped me develop my teaching skills. Later, I became an aide, providing assistance to secondary school students with disabilities and special educational needs. Working as a learning support assistant helped me gain more knowledge about special educational needs and how to support SEND students. I feel that I've developed a specialist knowledge of SEND, and I would love to help more students with special educational needs. Moreover, I'm a certified TEFL teacher and I enjoy helping people improve their language skills.
