A bit about Amie B

Hello, my name is Amie; I am a resourceful and academically driven teacher who brings both enthusiasm and modern teaching methods to my lessons. With over ten years’ experience working in education, and three years’ experience as a Head of English, I have an excellent understanding of the UK secondary English curriculum. Throughout my career in education, my teaching has been consistently marked as “Good” to “Outstanding” in formal observations. I feel that I have much to offer as a tutor, and always strive to build strong connections with students to inspire a lifelong love of English. I approach my lessons with kindness and consistency, with high expectations set in place for each and every student that I work with. In my most recent teaching position, I was Head of English at a BSO accredited Outstanding British international school. I was internally promoted to Head of Department within six months of joining the school, and during my time in this role, IGCSE English Language results increased by 17%. In addition to this, we achieved 100% A - B IGCSE English Literature results over two consecutive academic years. I have considerable experience managing the long-term curriculum planning of an English department, and have created a number of schemes of work and resources that were designed to provide a challenging, cohesive and high-quality curriculum journey. My previous school received an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in our external BSO 2022 inspection, and I was invited to be a key speaker at a British Schools of The Middle East (BSME) webinar, delivering a presentation titled ‘Inspired Learning in English’. My commitment to the provision of high-quality education is the result of my own academic journey; I achieved a grade A in my English Literature and Language A Level studies and an A* at GCSE. In 2010, I embarked on a Bachelor of Arts English Degree at the University of Southampton, where I achieved upper second-class honours, and first-class honours for my final dissertation. I have Qualified Teaching Status, and have successfully completed my statutory teacher induction.
