A bit about Sophie H

My career and qualifications demonstrate my passion for English. I have a first-class BA (Hons) degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (with Qualified Teacher Status) from the University of Birmingham. I am currently studying for a master's degree. I teach English to students aged 11-18. I am experienced in teaching KS3 English, GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature, and A Level English Literature. I have taught across multiple exam boards. I love anything creative, be it crochet, upcycling furniture, painting or writing. I also love walking in nature, reading (I've always got my nose in a book!) and seeing live comedy and theatre. I'm a big believer in the 'I do, we do, you do' approach. This means I'll demonstrate how to do something (for example, analysing a quote for language features) so you know what you're aiming for, we'll then have a go together, and then when you feel ready, you'll have a go at doing it yourself. This way we can build confidence and independence, but you'll never be thrown in at the deep end. I'll always begin my lessons with a quick starter activity that recaps your prior learning to cement your knowledge and ensure you have a secure foundation to build on. I am friendly and warm. I like to build pupils' confidence and help them to believe in themselves! I am also passionate and knowledgeable about my subject and enjoy sharing my love of English with my students. I am an experienced English tutor and fully qualified teacher offering a friendly and professional service. Please note: I now have availability on Thursdays and Fridays.
