A bit about Nicola A

I help students to achieve the highest grades possible - last year, many of my students achieved THREE grades higher than their target grade. I am passionate about developing the life-opportunities and shaping the futures of the young people I work with. My specialist texts are: A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, Blood Brothers, Poetry of Power and Conflict and Romeo and Juliet. I have been an English Literature Examiner for both AQA and Eduqas examination boards for the past sixteen years and consider myself to have high expertise with teaching English Literature - in particular, how to plan essays so they meet all the assessment objectives and how to structure a high level essay response. I have recently been accepted as an examiner for Edexcel. I have taught the AQA English Language curriculum for over a decade and am highly confident with teaching all aspects of this GCSE paper. Each year, I have achieved outstanding exam results where students have attained results in excess of their target grades. Since being a child, I have had a life-long love of reading and literature. I was certainly a book-worm as a child and had devoured all the classic Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl books before I turned ten! At school, I adored my English lessons and the creativity and escapism of both reading and writing stories. My secondary school English teacher was a huge inspiration to me; when she taught me my GCSE texts, I was absolutely captivated by her teaching of 'Macbeth' and 'A View From The Bridge.' I looked forward to her lessons every week and she pushed me to work my hardest and achieve great results. I decided I wanted to become an English teacher and tutor so that I could try to be the type of teacher that I had the privilege of learning from to future generations of students - a friendly, approachable, interesting and knowledgeable teacher. A teacher that helps students to enjoy and appreciate the written word and to spark a love of reading and writing.
