A bit about Kelly T

I am a qualified and experienced Primary School Teacher with 14 years of qualified teaching experience and also many years of tutoring children and young people on a one-to-one basis during out of school hours. I can make lessons fun and memorable for you. Primary English and Primary Maths. For English, I specialise in learning to read and write and up-levelling your writing skills in terms of grammar, language and creativity. I also specialise in early reading and comprehension, including phonics (recognition and blending sounds) and inference skills. For Maths, I specialise in building confidence in a specified area such as times table facts, fractions, division as well as other areas children tend to need more confidence in (like telling the time or word problems). I like to broadly plan my lessons with good resources and adapt and change to suit how the student responds. I will plan around prior learning and known interests (that could be discussed either at the introduction stage or during previous sessions. The student (or parent if more appropriate) would always review the learning objective/intention at the start of each session and what the intended outcome is. I like to use many visuals during my lessons to make the learning more engaging and memorable. For auditory learners, I would use simple bullet points to discuss through, making sure the student participates with making notes and answering targeted questions. Kinaesthetic learners will have plenty of opportunities to interact on/with the whiteboard as well as other actions relevant to the intended learning. I first started tutoring (in person) in 2013. I have helped several students with their reading and writing skills, comprehension skills, completion of homework and targeted objectives as well as preparing students for their exams such as the 7+, 11+, SATS and English GCSEs. I enjoy teaching learners how to improve their writing, reading and comprehension skills. I love it when students enjoy what they are learning and reading about and have a lot to say about it once they gained the confidence and ability to achieve a challenge or set task. For younger learners, I really enjoy observing how students progress in their reading and comprehension skills and apply this to their own creative or generated writing. My teaching style ranges from prescriptive and structured to coaching in tone (a lot of effective questioning to elicit a direction). The style really depends on the content, requirement and preference of the student/parent of the learner. I like to first take a few minutes of a session to recap any previous learning that may be relevant to the current session and make the learning aim clear. I will then teach, guide or facilitate the learner with appropriate resources and activities to reach the learning goal or intended outcome. The session usually ends with a review of the lesson (including questions to the student to check understanding) and a summary of what has been covered. I love seeing students smile and respond positively as they learn something new and when they have been shown how they have made progress. There is always a sense of healthy pride and confidence when a learner has discovered, explored or demonstrated something new. I like to play a part in helping learners to achieve goals and apply to other areas of their education and lifestyle. Make learning fun, relevant, purposeful and set at an appropriate stage/pace for the learner. The coaching and interactive questions/activities. I tend to personalise it for each learner as I get to know them and their interests more. All children in my class making substantial progress! PGCE -Postgraduate Certificate of Education, QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) I love to help people learn and develop themselves. I enjoy helping others to improve their self-esteem and confidence in their capabilities. I enjoy swimming, walking, simple craft making, online digital skills, volunteering and writing or reading books (I have written some children's books and other books to help adults with their self development). I teach anywhere from Early Years, Keys Stages 1,2 and 3 through to adults preparing for a Functional Skills test.
