A bit about Tess E

I started teaching through the Teach First graduate scheme in 2017, and have been teaching ever since in both mainstream and special education. I currently teach English at an Alternative Provision school that specialises in behavioural needs. I have taught both KS3 and 4, and have also taught the primary curriculum. In addition, I have been lead teacher for GCSE Sociology, and English Curriculum Lead. Furthermore, I am completing a Masters in Inclusive Special Education. I specialise in English Language and Literature, and also have substantial experience marking English Language for two different exam boards. I have been tutoring since roughly September 2021, both in person and online. Offering lessons in English Literature and English Language. Working in alternative provision can be unpredictable, so it is important that my lessons offer lots of different opportunities for success. My lessons are easily adapted to suit the needs of the young person that day, to ensure that every learner gets the best out of their time. My teaching pedagogy style is relaxed and student led. I like to guide students to where they need to be using a variety of different resources. I find the student led approach to be much more beneficial when it comes to knowledge retention and promoting confidence in their own abilities. My favourite thing about teaching English is how relatable the subject is. Every student can find something that interests them about English, and this allows both the teacher and students many opportunities to learn things about one another, and form a positive teacher-student relationship.
