A bit about Tahani U

I specialise in English, more specifically English literature. I also look at close reading and textual analysis. I also specialise in 11+. I also have a love for the sciences, especially biology and chemistry! As you can tell I am a lover of most subjects :) I am tutor that is very passionate about interaction and interpersonal relations, so my aim is to make students comfortable, and use scaffolding techniques to allow them to flourish independently. This means very interactive, hands-on sessions where we discuss the topics together, almost like a seminar. I have been tutoring for over 2 and a half years in many subjects, including English, maths, science, phonics and 11+. I have worked with students ages 4 to 18 - in groups and 1:1 - so I believe that I am adapted to most situations. I also have experience tutoring SEN and neurodivergent students. I have tutored GCSE lessons as well. As a tutor of almost 3 years, the highlights of my job have been when parents and guardians have approached me to share the positive impact I have had on the student. After my support, one student, who really struggled with maths, passed his 11+ after 6 months of tuition with me. He managed to get into his dream school, and was so thankful for the support, not just academically, but mentally as well. Seeing success come to life is the most rewarding aspect of my role as a tutor. As a child, I was a very introverted individual. Because of this, there were many times that I was overshadowed and ignored during school. When I left high school as a more confident version of myself, I decided that I wanted to be able to support all students, despite their character or struggles. I want to inspire others to break out of their shell and be able to express themselves in a comfortable environment. I am a very creatively driven individual, so outside of teaching I love to indulge in art, whether that be painting, drawing or sewing. Because of my background in English Literature, I love focusing on the philosophy and history of artwork as well! I also love to cook! Because of my Bangladeshi-British identity, food is a cornerstone of culture for me. I love experimenting with different flavours and combinations, but especially love cooking for family and friends because of the joy it brings them. Naturally I am an avid reader, with my favourite authors being Franz Kafka and Jane Austin. But I will read almost anything!
