Previous Headteacher and Maths Specialist
You can book a free 20 minute, no-commitment introduction with any of our tutors. How does this work?
My background qualifications, (B.Ed and M.A.), and a Teaching Certificate, included the study of mathematics and my career as a teacher was as a mathematics specialist at one time. Nowadays I tend to help students through key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 on their way to GCSE and IGCSE examinations. One specialism I have picked up along the way is in the field of revision and examination preparation and my techniques in these areas have been formulated over many years.
I am an ex - sportsman and teacher of mathematics, recently retired from the classroom. I have taught in all sorts of schools, private and state, in a number of different countries, including England. I have experience of a wide range of Examining Boards for GCSE, IGCSE and A level and have had experience as an Examiner for Cambridge. The latter part of my career was as a Headteacher in the U.K., Africa and South - East Asia.
My lessons are usually built on what has gone before and, where possible, I try to build up a set of inter - linking aspects of the concept in hand. I try to make sure we only move on when the previous step is secure. I try to interact at the appropriate level for each tutee and move at a pace they seem comfortable with. I also use frequent assessment along the way to ensure a firm grasp of what we are doing. Within that, try to adopt a light - hearted approach with lots of laughing but lots of learning.
I started teaching many years ago and from an early stage would frequently tutor outside the classroom, often for students who needed additional help or stretching. On return to England and more recently, I have been tutoring face - to - face for a few years but with the pandemic I have gone 'on - line'.
