A bit about Aj

English Language GCSE (AQA and Edexcel), English Literature GCSE (AQA and Edexcel) English Literature A Level (Edexcel), English Key Stage Three. I tailor and adapt lessons for Key stage 3 to 5 students, and will consult the student on their goals and areas of focus. As an examiner for English, I am able to provide targeted support. I have extensive experience of helping students gain entry into their first choice universities through personal statement tutoring. I am passionate about helping students gain confidence and improving their overall ability and grade in English Language and Literature. English can be a tremendously difficult subject for students and I enjoy breaking down and deconstructing the subject at all levels. I help students improve on the following assessment objectives: - Essay planning and writing - Language and structural analysis - Evaluation - Comparative analysis - Creative writing - Transactional writing - Learning and incorporating tier 2 and tier 3 vocabulary - Using varying sentence types - Writer’s intentions - Literary and historical context For personal statements: - Personalised approach focusing on subject specific examples - Modelling successful statements - University interview preparation - Example questions and practice - Mock interview Each lesson will be tailored for the needs of the student. What I love most about teaching English is witnessing the transformative power of language. It's incredible to see students grow in their ability to communicate effectively, express themselves creatively, and understand the world around them. English education is not just about grammar and literature; it is about empowering individuals to navigate and contribute to society confidently. I am currently the Head of Key Stage 5 English at a school in London and am completing a PhD part-time in Education Policy. I had a class of underperforming students at the GCSE level who were projected to fail their English GCSEs; however, through tailored support and dedication, I was able to ensure that out of a class of 15 students, 11 passed their GCSE, with 7 of these students outperforming their predicted grades. Furthermore, I have taught and supported pupils to gain GCSEs and A levels in English for the last five years.
