A bit about Yewande J

I am a dedicated educator with over 19 years of experience in the field, including serving as a lead practitioner in KS4 English. In addition to English, I have taught Religious Education for 8 years at GCSE level. My specialization lies in English at KS3 and GCSE levels, covering a wide range of exam boards including AQA, EDEXCEL, and EDUCAS for both English Language and English Literature. Specifically, I focus on texts such as AQA Power and Conflict, Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, A Christmas Carol, and An Inspector Calls, as well as Edexcel anthology booklet texts on Conflict. My tutoring approach consistently leads to remarkable grade improvements, and with a proven track record, I am deeply committed to guiding students toward achieving their academic aspirations. My lessons are tailored to each student's needs and learning style. We'll start by assessing your strengths and areas for improvement, then craft a personalised plan to help you succeed. I have been teaching at a secondary school for years, but began tutoring two years ago, and it's been an incredibly rewarding journey since then. I've had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds and seeing their growth first-hand. What I love most about teaching English is witnessing the power of language to inspire, express, and connect us. It's incredibly rewarding to help students unlock the beauty and complexity of literature and language. My teaching style is dynamic, engaging, and student-centred. I believe in fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, explore ideas, and grow academically. My favourite thing about tutoring is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students' lives. Seeing their confidence soar as they grasp difficult concepts or achieve their goals is truly gratifying. My teaching philosophy revolves around nurturing a love for learning, fostering critical thinking skills, and promoting academic excellence. I believe in empowering students to become independent, lifelong learners. Students appreciate my patient approach, clear explanations, and ability to break down complex concepts into manageable steps. They also enjoy the supportive and encouraging atmosphere I create in every lesson. One of my greatest successes was helping a struggling student improve their English grade from a 3 to an 8, which enabled them to get into their desired Sixth Form. Witnessing their transformation and newfound confidence was incredibly rewarding. I am a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) certification, obtained alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) specializing in Secondary Education from the University of Durham. With nearly two decades of hands-on teaching experience, I am well-equipped to provide effective support to students in their English language and literature studies. My inspiration to become a teacher stemmed from a profound desire to see young people excel and fulfil their true potential. Having faced academic challenges myself, I intimately understand the struggles students encounter and am driven to help them overcome obstacles. Witnessing the transformative impact education can have on individuals, I was compelled to pursue a career in teaching. My goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of students, guiding them towards success and empowering them to thrive academically and beyond. Outside of teaching, I cherish quality time with my family and relish moments as a devoted mum. I often enjoy dining out and catching a good movie. This balance between family time and personal interests keeps me grounded and energized to bring my best to the classroom.
