A bit about Skylar

I am a qualified teacher that is now working as a full-time tutor. My classroom experience includes working in bilingual and international schools working alongside a wide range of students with varying needs and abilities In my 5 years in the profession, I have worked with many different curricula including A-Level, GCSE, IGCSE and the IB which has made me more proficient in the areas that students typically struggle with and in what ways these can be highlighted and improved in a friendly, positive manner. With the use of resources that I have acquired alongside the pedagogical skills I obtained during my PGCE course, I now work full-time as a tutor delivering lessons in Maths & Economics. I strive to make sure that students leave lessons being more confident in the covered content and as a basis to encourage them to further sharpen their ability to perform well in both classroom and exam hall scenarios. A student that I once had approached me asking for support when going into Year 9 as they were still unsure whether they would be entered for the Foundation or Higher GCSE course given their previous attainment. We had weekly sessions for a full academic year and the improvement by Christmas was that their class teacher was confident that they would be getting entered for the Higher tier. Over the course of the GCSE program, we continued to have weekly tutoring sessions covering the entire Maths GCSE syllabus. When results day arrived, they achieved a grade 8 and were able to be admitted into their college program of choice for their Post-16 education. KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level & International Baccalaureate Years 9 to 13 in the UK or ages 13 to 18+ globally I am able to cover all major UK exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) PGCE Secondary Mathematics (2019) - Durham University BA(Hons) Accounting & Finance with Study Abroad (2018) - Newcastle University A-Level (2014) - Mathematics, Economics & French GCSE (2011) - Mathematics (A*), completed at the end of Year 10 I am additionally of a B2 level in both French and Swedish My teaching style is charismatic, friendly and positive-minded. I like to see the lighter side of what can be rather arduous subjects at times. My focus is on the ways that exam boards can present information and how somewhat straightforward questions can be made a lot more difficult and cross paths into other areas of the subject by extending past exam questions into such areas so that students are more adept at identifying how questions can be made more difficult and more aware of questions that can be a key determinant for the highest grades available. For Economics, I have a strong emphasis on local examples to where the student is based so that they are familiar with Economics in action and can see for themselves how economic theory has an impact on their daily lives and the world around them. By tying this to the underpinning theory in the syllabus, they can provide more nuanced responses in exams and improve their grades. For Maths, animations and interactive tools to "play around" with areas such as Geometry. Learning about angles and coordinates is definitely best understood as a concept with good animations and some self-exploration for students to get a solid grasp on
