A bit about Imogen R

Hey, my name is Imogen and I've been tutoring English, alongside being a writer and film director! As you can probably imagine, I'm super passionate about reading and writing, which is why I want to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for this subject to help you not only pass your exams, but to foster a deep enjoyment of it. I first started tutoring with an agency that specialises in providing affordable tuition to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, which is a really great cause, and has been an excellent place for me to start work as a tutor. I am looking forward to taking on some new clients with Sherpa. While I love all aspects of tutoring English, one of my favourite things is when I can see my students making progress over the weeks, and having that "Eureka!" moment when they finally understand the core of a text or an idea they've struggled with previously. I also love having interesting conversations with my students about texts they are studying in literature, and hearing their own interpretations of what they have read. My teaching philosophy is all about finding ways for my students to connect to the study of English -- and genuinely enjoy it -- which I believe is the key to excelling in just about anything. I think a hurdle that a lot of people come up against in school is this idea that studying a text should be a dry and gruelling task, which really takes the fun out of reading. When you boil it down, the study of English is all about interpreting stories and learning about humanity, the world and our place in it (you might just need to brush up on your spelling and grammar along the way).
