A bit about Laura F

I have been a primary teacher in Devon for over 11 years and am currently working as a supply teacher and tutor. My tutoring bridges the gap between what’s delivered in the classroom to what a child receives. I enable children to make excellent and rapid progress in their learning by clearly explaining what children need to understand, whilst building their confidence and self-esteem. My expert tuition provides supportive feedback, regular assessment and supportive modelling to help children make accelerated progress in their learning. Weekly tutoring sessions will make a positive impact on your child's progress to confidently pass a particular exam, such as SATs or the 11+, and help their confidence flourish, enabling them to access and succeed in their broader or further learning. I have taught in English primary schools as a class teacher, delivering high quality sequences of lessons, assessments and targeted provision for over 11 years. I know the UK National Curriculum skills and content, along with the expectations that is expected within each year group. I also tutor children who aim to sit the 11+ exam for Grammar schools. My experience also reaches any general primary teaching, including English and Maths, and any of the foundation subjects that a child needs support in, such as Geography, or History. My lessons and planning are adaptive to each child's needs, ensuring that children's individual needs are closely monitored and supported appropriately. I teach specific skills to fill gaps in a child's learning, building their confidence through praise and effective feedback. I model and scaffold each child's learning clearly so they understand my expectations and encourage them to apply these skills independently to build fluency and their accurate application of skills. I completed the National Tutoring Agency training for School-Led Tutors back in 2022 and began tutoring groups of children needing specific skills. From there, I continued to work in schools while building my face to face tutoring business, working with small groups and 1:1 children. As an experienced classroom teacher, I enjoy the personal aspect of tutoring, allowing me to support children at their challenge point. I love to watch children's confidence flourish after a block of work, identifying and working on key areas of learning that they have needed support in, such as arithmetic or spelling. Building a trusting, respectful rapport with children means that lessons can be fun and engaging, whilst providing targeted support for each child. Working with primary aged children brings a lot of fun to my tutoring sessions. I like to engage children with video clips, pictures that interest them and hands on resources to develop children's understanding of the content or skill. By using visuals and manipulatives, such as counters, children take more control over their learning and are active learners within each session, enabling them to progress more quickly, due to their secure understanding. Outside of teaching I love to take my children swimming and local clubs such as forest school, playgroup and sports lessons. I have recently found enjoyment in sketching (when I have time!) and I also love listening to a wide range of music. Before having children, I loved volunteering in my local community doing first aid at events and as a Special Constable in the police service. 2022 National Tutoring Agency School-Led Tutor 2018 Exeter University MA Education 2013 Exeter University PGCE with QTS 2010 Exeter University BA (Hons) Childhood Studies Recent training: 2024 The National College Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 2024 The National College Annual Certificate in Safeguarding for Supply Staff for Primary Schools and Academies (2023-24) 2023 HM Government Prevent Awareness Course
