A bit about Jemma C

I believe my qualifications make me well-suited for the role. I hold 9 GCSEs, achieving 7 A's and 2 B's, including Maths and English. Furthermore, I completed A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and As-levels in Spanish and Psychology. Building upon this foundation, I pursued a Chemistry BSc and Masters at Newcastle University, where I graduated with a 2:1. Currently, I am in my second year of a Chemical Engineering PhD at Newcastle University, where I continue to deepen my understanding of the sciences. These academic achievements, combined with my experience in tutoring throughout University, equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to support students effectively in Chemistry and Biology. My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in my own journey through education, where I encountered challenges in grasping certain concepts. These struggles have shaped my belief that every student can succeed with the right support and approach. I understand firsthand the frustration and anxiety that can accompany learning difficulties, and my aim as a tutor is to alleviate those worries by finding creative and effective ways to help students understand complex ideas. I see myself not just as a teacher, but as a mentor and guide, walking alongside my students as they navigate their educational path. Drawing from my own experiences, I emphasise empathy, patience, and encouragement in my interactions with students. I believe in meeting students where they are and tailoring my approach to their individual needs and learning styles. Whether it's through the use of analogies, discussions, hands-on activities, or other methods, I strive to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, explore ideas, and make connections. My goal is not only to impart knowledge but also to instil confidence and a sense of curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. What I love most about teaching my subject is the opportunity to demystify the often daunting aspects of science and reveal its endless possibilities. Having grappled with the complexities of science myself, I understand the initial apprehension many students may feel. However, I find immense joy in guiding them through this journey of discovery and watching as their confidence grows. Science is not just a collection of facts and formulas; it's a dynamic and ever-evolving field that opens countless avenues for exploration and conversation. I'm continually fascinated by the depth and breadth of scientific research happening every day, and I strive to convey this sense of excitement to my students. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing that 'aha' moment when a concept clicks or a connection is made. I love fostering an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, engaging in discussions, and exploring the wonders of the natural world. Through teaching, I not only have the privilege of sharing my knowledge and passion for science but also of inspiring the next generation of curious minds. It's incredibly fulfilling to play a role in shaping their understanding and appreciation of the world around them.
