A bit about Emily S

I achieved a 2:1 in Psychology BSc (Hons) from The University of Southampton. A PGCE in Primary & Early Years Education from the University of Cambridge. A Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health which I graduated with a Distinction. I’m also a qualified Yoga Teacher and Mentor having completed a Level 2 qualification in Effective Mentoring. My Teaching Philosophy is to always start where the learner is. I take a person centred approach and tailor my lesson plans to suit the individual. This means creating personalised resources to engage the student, working towards their strengths and learning style. I also ensure effective use of questioning to ensure the learning is consolidated and understood with more depth and breath. This leads to rapid progress and achievement. Seeing my students confidence grow as a learner. When I observe them independently and confidently completing tasks they once found really challenging is exactly why I went into teaching in the first place. To know I’ve made a difference to help them progress and achieve. It’s so rewarding to see those light bulb moments! A child in my class was assessed as being two years below their age for reading, this really affected their confidence as they knew they were behind their peers. After running regular phonics interventions and providing lots of support and encouragement they finished the year being assessed as meeting their age related target for reading. This was a huge achievement for the student and something I’ll always remember.
