A bit about Toni

I specialise in tutoring history, politics and modern foreign languages. My history A-Level, politics degree, and passion for both subjects make me an engaging social sciences and humanities tutor. I am trilingual (German, English, French) and about to complete a languages degree (which includes teaching and translation elements) at a Russel group university. I'm a part-time Politics and French student at Bristol university with four A-Levels and an EPQ (A*-B) and due to start my masters next year. I have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language at a French primary school. I can also help with the structure, timeline, research, and writing of your EPQ in any subject, as I have not only done one myself, but have refined my academic writing and research skills over the past six years at university. I also have helped students with individual research projects in the past. I hope to see you in my classroom! I first started volunteering as a Biology, French and History tutor in April 2020. My own university studies were heavily affected by the pandemic and I therefore really felt for students in schools, as teacher-student contact is so much more important for younger learners. I am so glad that my idea to help disadvantaged students during the pandemic led me down this path, as I have had a lot of fun tutoring on and off in the years since. Overall, I have over two years of online tutoring experience and I will happily use it to support you during your journey! Hi, I'm Toni. I'm a part-time Politics and French student at Bristol university and due to start my masters next year. Originally from Austria, I moved to the UK at an early age and have loved learning about different cultures and our society ever since. I have been tutoring on and off since early 2020, originally as a volunteer, and have truly enjoyed every second of it. It's very rewarding to see someone else successfully apply a concept you have explained to them. I would love to support you or your child in realizing your full potential! I have completed four full A-Levels and an EPQ (all A*-B) and have a total of over two years of active tutoring experience, as well as a term as an English teacher in a French primary school and kindergarten in late 2020. Let me know what you need help with and I will do my best to cater to your individual needs! I have the most online tutoring experience with GCSE and A-Level, but I have spent a term working as an English teacher in a French primary school and kindergarten. I would therefore definitely feel comfortable working with younger children too. In terms of exam boards, I would be comfortable preparing myself for tutoring any exam boards. It matters to me to cater to your individual needs, so I will happily do some extra research. When it comes to my personal experience, I have mostly tutored AQA and Edexcel, but have successfully completed Edexcel, Cambridge Pre-U and AQA exams myself. I believe in evoking curiosity by linking new content back to your interests. It's obviously easier to be more individualistic at A-Level, but a lot of tutoring I have done has been with GCSE students and I have always succeeded at finding topics that the student is really interested in. History, biology, languages etc relate to our everyday lives in many ways. If you enjoy baking you might be fascinated by how yeast respires. If you enjoy politics you might be curious about how the French language and its dialects are regulated by the political powers of France. If you're into sports maybe you will like what I have to tell you about Henry VIII's jousting and how his sports injury massively impacted history? Maybe you play hockey or dance ballet and can relate to the frustration of getting injured doing what you love! I also believe in giving my students a lot of time expressing what they think and what they have learned. When I worked in a French primary school I learned about something called reduced Teacher Talking Time in my English as a foreign language classrooms and I have happily applied this to not only my other language students in French and German, but to my history and biology tutees too. I believe it's really important for me to guide my students in what they do, but ultimately the science of learning shows us that trying to solve problems and coming up with your own ideas and answers really helps entrench a concept in your mind. I will give you a chance to figure out the subject matter for yourself and talk me through your thinking process, helping you along the way. Then I will explain the concept using visual aids. After this you can have another go at the problem yourself and show me what you've learned! I will do my best to tailor my lessons to your individual needs, so my teaching style will differ from student to student! Just tell me what fits your learning style or we can figure it out together by trying different approaches. Outside of tutoring I am primarily a dancer, a political scientist and a dog mum. My formation ballroom dance team is really important to me, but I have a great time with salsa and long hikes with my dog Tessi too. I also love learning languages. I am a German native speaker, have been living in the UK from a young age, study French at university and love working on my Italian. When I'm not doing any of those things board games with my friends are always a winner in my home. (:
