A bit about Mohan N

My name is Mohan and I am a qualified Business Studies teacher with over 19 years worth of experience and currently sit on the Senior Leadership Team. I am also an examiner for Edexcel and understand what skills and knowledge it takes to achieve a high grade. I have a passion for teaching and my recent GCSE results (including Grade 9s) puts my subject in the top 5% of schools nationally. I like to make my sessions interactive using meta cognition and the best pedagogy for teaching online, so students can retain knowledge. I first started teaching in 2005 and have 19 years worth of experience as a Business Studies teacher. I am currently, a Senior Leader in a school and have a Masters Degree in Education. As a teacher, I cherish the opportunity to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds. It’s really important to me that knowledge is taught to students that is adapted to their needs and witnessing a student’s “aha” moment, when they grasp a concept or find their voice, is pure magic. I have a passion for my subject from studying Economics at A-Level to pursuing a degree in business. I also partake in my own family business, so I understand what it takes to teach this subject. I approach my teaching with years of practice in the classroom, achieving outstanding results. How? Using meta cognition, I like to focus on retrieval practice to ensure that knowledge is retained in long term memory. Based on the latest research, I like to use a spiral curriculum and space learning, I will regularly revisit topics over time. This improves retention. I like using low stakes quizzes to check students for their understanding as well as going over exam style questions. I like to practice past papers and love breaking down the big 9 and 12 marker questions into manageable chuncks. I adapt my lessons to meet the needs of my students and gradually introduce more complex topics over time. Beside business, I love sports such as cricket, football and Badminton. I love reading novels, biographies, Sci-fi and philosophical books. I enjoy spending time with nature and must complete my 10,000 steps a day. Walking and putting on a podcast is my kind of evening after a long day at work. Lastly, I love travelling. I have been to 30 countries so far and usually travel a few times a year with my family. The diversity around us really makes me appreciate the world we live in. I am currently a Senior Assistant Headteacher with a Masters in Education and Leadership. I completed my National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders in 2021. I have taught Business Studies for the past 19 years
