A bit about Grace J

I am a qualified and highly experienced ESL and Functional Skills English teacher. I currently teach English to Early School Leavers, teenagers and adults in an FE college in Halifax West Yorkshire and have been happy there for the past ten years. I have over 20 years of experience in teaching English as a second language and 10 years as a native language. I have taught to all ages and levels. I have worked in schools, academies and colleges and on several Summer Camps in England, Barcelona and Thailand. I am very familiar with the IELTS and TOEFL exams and have helped many students prepare for and pass these exams. I have privately tutored English to Key stage 1, 2, 3 and key stage 4 pupils, so I am very familiar with the contents of these curriculums. My students tell me that my lessons are fun, engaging and very productive. As well as teaching adults, I also love teaching kids and teenagers because you can be as creative as you like and I enjoy a challenge! I am a former Helen O'Grady trained Children’s Drama Teacher. Some of the role duties involved building upon confidence and personal development through drama. I delivered educational based drama workshops in both Primary and Secondary Schools. I also used my experience and expertise to help prepare adults for public speaking and job interviews. I have a bundle of fun and creative teaching strategies to build upon all areas of literacy and verbal skills. These have proven useful tools in order to engage students and instil confidence in their ability to succeed. I believe this is extremely important as it fuels learning. I believe creating a fun, warm and organised learning environment where each student feels valued and engaged is a key ingredient for effective learning to happen. As my college has closed for the Summer, I am now available to deliver, online (and in person if local) I am offering well structured, tailored lessons to children, teens and adults to meet individual needs. I offer a lesson reduction for more than one student to help make classes more affordable. Differentiating lessons is a key strength of mine so I can adapt and teach more than one student at a time, if preferred. I specialise in TEFL English and Functional Skills English. I have experience in teaching GCSE English and Key stage 2 and 3 I always plan my lessons which are built on the students individual needs. Prior to learning I give my student a general assessment to gain prior knowledge. Once I know what level my student it working out I can devise Individual Learning Plan. All my lessons have lesson plans with clear aims and objectives. I always include a warmer, 3 different activities with different teaching strategies in order to engage my student. I use a variety of formative assessments through put the lesson to assess my students learning. Feedback is very important , followed by a pan of action. I like to give my student a a HW task to re-visit and target weak areas. My students often tell me that my lessons are fun, engaging and productive. I first started private tutoring lessons about 20 years ago as a TEFL teacher while living in Barcelona. Since then, I have delivered a variety of English classes to individuals and small groups in England. I have always tutored to the individual needs of my student. the student.
