A bit about Bethia S

I have seventeen years teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. I specifically taught GCSE, A Level and IB Geography for 3 years in one of the top 100 UK schools for grade outcomes. I have approximately two years experience as a 1:1 tutor. Having also been an examiner, I understand how exams are marked, what examiners are looking for and how to gain top marks. I am a human geographer and more recently I am working in environmental education which gives me up to date knowledge on some of the greatest challenges and most important applications of geographical skills and understanding. I love Geography because it is so broad and so applicable to whatever work or lifestyle you choose for your future. There are many overlaps between human Geography and Sociology - both subjects explore human interactions, actions and spaces. Teaching them both gives me a unique perspective on the broader picture of society. I am a dynamic and energetic teacher. My teaching style is varied and visual. I work to build a good rapport with my tutees and from that connection, I can adapt and learn best how to teach you, specifically. I understand that education is competitive and pressurised - I have high expectations of myself and of my tutees. Firstly, I work to embed the necessary knowledge so that you are confident that you know and understand the material. Secondly, I work to practise and perfect applying that knowledge to examination questions so that you can achieve the highest grade you are capable of. I am experienced in teaching students of all abilities and also students for whom English is a second language. Geography and Sociology are fascinating subjects with many overlaps. I enjoy the fact that they are both so relevant to the challenges and opportunities we face today - environmentalism, gender roles and economics are just a few of the current and essential topics for us to explore and debate as learners and eventually, as members of our societies.
