A bit about Emma

I am a highly experienced secondary English teacher with over 18 years of experience specialising in teaching KS3 English and GCSE English Language and English Literature. I currently teach in an secondary school and I have been an examiner for AQA English Language Paper 1 recently so I know what the exam board want for this particular paper. Being an examiner really improved my teaching of English Language and this has definitely transferred to my teaching of this subject; my students have done really well! I use a lot of past exam papers within my teaching, I spend a lot of time discussing responses with students when they are planning a response and I use my own models to guide students to excellence. I often write a response with students to show them what an excellent answer looks like. I started tutoring a year ago but have been teaching for over 18 years. I love seeing students' confidence and self- belief grow during 1:1 tuition. I enjoy helping students achieve their full potential with 1:1 guidance and take a very student centred approach with regards to their strengths and targets. My teaching style is friendly and approachable, I aim to make my teaching relatable to students and use models to show students what an excellent answer looks like and how to get there. I teach AQA and Eduqas but can easily adapt my teaching to fit other exam boards also. I am a qualified yoga teacher and have been teaching yoga twice a week for 3 years. When I'm not tutoring I'm running my own yoga teaching business and practicing yoga and meditation myself. This definitely affects my tutoring skills as I am really calm and my students have said that I always seem calm and happy. I love walking my dog Dexter in the woods near my house and generally love being outside in nature.
