A bit about Joel L

I am a BSc in Computer Science with Management student at King's College London. full A* in GCSE and I've been an online tutor since the start of COVID-19 for KS3 & GCSE, with over two years of experience as a teaching assistant at a private tutoring centre. I have taught various subjects, including Maths, Further Maths, Sciences, Economics, Business and Accounting. Currently, I am working as a Research Associate in the STEM field and also working on an open-source data science-related project. I specialise in teaching Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths, Economics, Business studies and Accounting. (Covering both GCSE & A level) My lessons are tailored based on the student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. Typically, I start each lesson by reviewing the homework from the previous session. This helps us to see what was challenging or insightful, creating a reflective atmosphere. Based on this reflection, we set specific goals for the current lesson to address any gaps or build on areas where the student is interested or excels. After setting our goals, I introduce new concepts related to the student's curriculum needs or areas where they want a deeper understanding. I can teach in a way that works best for the student, whether they learn by listening, seeing, or doing. As the lesson progresses, we do guided practice. I give the student tasks like past paper questions related to the topic and provide immediate feedback and support. This helps clarify doubts instantly and makes sure the student feels confident before moving on. At the end of the session, we review what has been learned to consolidate understanding and have a Q&A session for the student to ask any questions they have. We usually end by assigning homework for the student to practice. However, bear in mind, this is a generic approach and each lesson may be adjusted according to the student's need and subject requirements.
