A bit about Minshu G

Hi, I'm Minshu Gupta, a 4th-year medical student at Oxford University. My journey into medicine started early, influenced by my parents, who are both doctors. Being surrounded by medical conversations from a young age sparked my curiosity and led me to pursue this path. Studying at Oxford has been an incredible experience. I've immersed myself in various fields like internal medicine and surgery, and I find the human body and disease mechanisms absolutely fascinating. The combination of intense coursework and practical experience has made my time here both challenging and rewarding. One of my biggest passions, apart from medicine, is teaching. I believe that sharing knowledge is one of the best ways to give back to the community and help shape future doctors. I've been involved in tutoring my peers, organizing study groups, and leading revision sessions. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts and making them accessible and engaging. Seeing that “aha” moment on someone’s face when they finally get a tricky topic is incredibly rewarding. I try to make learning fun and interactive, using different methods like hands-on demonstrations and problem-based learning. My students often tell me they appreciate my patience and enthusiasm, which is always nice to hear. When I'm not buried in medical textbooks or helping others study, I love exploring the beautiful landscapes around Oxford, reading medical literature, and getting involved in community service. I'm also passionate about mental health awareness and always encourage my peers to maintain a healthy balance between their studies and personal lives. As I look forward to my medical career, I'm excited about continuing to learn and grow, and, of course, to keep teaching and inspiring others along the way. Tutoring has been an incredibly rewarding part of my journey, particularly in subjects I'm passionate about. I've had the pleasure of helping students prepare for their Biology and Chemistry A levels, as well as a variety of GCSEs that I've taken myself. My approach focuses on breaking down complex concepts into manageable chunks and using real-world examples to make the material more relatable and easier to understand. In addition to subject-specific tutoring, I've also guided students through the medical school admissions process, including preparation for admissions tests, writing compelling personal statements, and practicing for interviews. This comprehensive support aims to build their confidence and help them present their best selves to admissions committees. I’ve had the opportunity to tutor both privately and formally with organizations like MyTutor and Medibrain. This diverse experience has allowed me to reach a wide range of students and tailor my teaching methods to meet their unique needs. Seeing my students improve, gain confidence, and achieve their goals has been incredibly fulfilling. Tutoring these diverse subjects and processes has not only enhanced my teaching skills but also deepened my understanding of the importance of personalized education. My teaching style is deeply rooted in a hands-on, active learning approach that fosters engagement and retention among students. By integrating active recall techniques, I ensure that students are not just passively receiving information but actively participating in their learning journey. This method involves frequent, low-stakes assessments that encourage students to retrieve information from memory, thereby strengthening their understanding and retention of the material. I believe in creating a dynamic classroom environment where students are constantly engaged in practical activities, collaborative projects, and interactive discussions. This approach not only makes learning more enjoyable but also helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Hands-on activities, such as experiments, simulations, and real-world applications, are integral to my teaching methodology. These activities provide students with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in practical settings, thereby deepening their comprehension and making learning more relevant to their everyday lives. By maintaining an active classroom, I aim to cater to various learning styles, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive. My ultimate goal is to inspire a love for learning, empowering students to become active, lifelong learners who are well-equipped to navigate and succeed in an ever-evolving world.
