A bit about Ethan C

I’m a Nord Anglia Course Manager (#1 in the UK for A Levels) and Science Teacher. I trained at a Top 20 School for GCSE Results in the UK, at Community Schools Trust. Complete resources used in my schools - I provide a full revision plan, all resources and notes and deliver 'at the front' teaching. I am driven to ensure your child succeeds through high quality lessons. I am currently studying on the BA Education, Society and Culture course at UCL (#1 in the world for Education). I am safeguarding level 3 trained and DBS enhanced checked. UCAS Preparation - particularly G5 universities. WJEC and Eduqas Chemistry and Maths GCSE. WJEC + Eduqas A Level Chemistry and Biology content and PPQs. Open to other exam boards for maths, Chemistry A Level and Biology content only. Topic Teaching and Exam Based Learning: Prior to the lesson - you will be sent lesson slides. It will be optional for the student to use this as pre-reading prior to the lesson as I fully understand this may be challenging for some. A minority of learners prefer this, as they are able to make use of the lesson through instead of using as ‘teaching at you from the basics’, learners are able to just ask to clarify concepts they find tricky. Please note lesson slides include specification points direct from the exam board and a thorough concept follow through of each specification point. A Level, I have already prepared for WJEC and use what I have used for the 4 years. During the lesson: - We will start with a short warm welcome and general chat to calm any nerves and build a strong professional relationship to ensure you are comfortable within the lesson. -If lesson slides have been studied prior, we will go through any concepts not understood. -We annotate the slides together and this is sent and used as the students' notes. Students never have to produce notes as this is all provided. This ensures efficient use of study time. I provide ‘closed learning’ by consistently stating to what extent someone needs to understand the theory to be able to access the questions and not going beyond the specification. This is where most students have difficulty. -Students will then be tested shortly through quick questions. Quick questions ensure learning is understood. -Past paper questions - often A level learned grasp content and request just to go through past paper questions. If this is the request, this is fine. All lesson slides have every single type of past paper question, particularly at A Level, I have been very meticulous and have gone right back through legacy papers. I do not include repeats of questions. -Any theory that is not understood is broken down and notes are sent to the learner after the lesson. -What you will find from PPQs, is that they ask questions in the same way and they need to be answered in the same way to achieve full marks. We go through PPQs using the notes first to ensure we practice exam technique. We do every type of question where the student makes notes on their question. Exam technique is answering how the examiner would like the questions to be asked. In every case we need to answer this way to avoid losing marks (timed during exam season). We analyse why the examiner would like the answer to be written in this way, as this is the high frequency error of losing marks. This is usually the only reason why some students require tutoring. This is what makes an effective tutor. -Revision strategy chat - including how much time is being used revising a week etc is discussed, including any questions at the end. Revision strategy is adapted if it is ineffective. -Bank of resources pre-made and used in top schools (including Nord Anglia Education). -Comprehensive support - lessons are just like school 'taught at the front'. -Revision support and full 10 page guide for students, learning to revise the most effective way. -All notes and types of PPQs (resource) given to students. -A Level Chemistry students receive all content (regardless if outside of topics tutored) -1 of less than 20 students in the UK to study on the BA Hons Education program at the World Leading (No. 1) Institute of Education at UCL. -Only student to have taught and managed a course for Nord Anglia Education. -1 of less than 10 selected to teach on the Graduate Trainee Program without a Degree at Community Schools Trust.
