A bit about Tom C

I have years of experience teaching English abroad with adults in China and teenagers in Spain. Whatever your level or academic goal, rest assured that I will provide engaging, diverse and suitable lessons to help you on your journey. I tutored a girl in Spain who, after initially struggling with motivation to study English, now has B2 level English (upper intermediate) having taken the test last year. As well as my degree in French and Spanish (2:2), I have my TKT1 (Teacher Knowledge Test) and a 120 hour TEFL certificate. I also have A level maths and Physics. I highly encourage students to speak during lesson time to improve confidence and fluency, and for this reason provide written work for students to prepare for the class ahead (for example, describe your daily routine). Feedback is given and any grammatical weaknesses can be addressed. Afterwards, a new subject is chosen. Examples of the target language are given in articles we can discuss, exercises and often games. These exercises form the basis for the next homework question, and the process repeats. I am laid back and will allow students the freedom to talk more about subjects that interest them. I can spot when people use Google Translate, but equally I have endless patience with people who have made a genuine effort. As I remember the struggles myself, I always tell people good things and things they can improve in a positive way.
