A bit about Alberto B

Hi! My name is Alberto, and I have been tutoring maths and physics for the past four years. I am passionate about helping students reach their learning goals, and about sharing my enthusiasm for maths and physics subjects. With intuitive and personalised explanations, maths and physics can become much easier, more interesting, and (dare I say it!) even more fun! Throughout the past four years I have gained valuable academic and tutoring experience and training which has helped make me a better tutor. In terms of education, I have recently graduated from a masters course in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Glasgow with first class honours, and before this, I finished the IB programme at home in Spain. I started tutoring during my degree, and have since helped prepare students in GCSE courses, A-levels/IB subjects and first and second year degree courses. I am more than happy to say all my tutoring students passed their exams! For the past year, I was employed as a tutor and demonstrator for the University of Glasgow to teach in tutorial sessions for first and second year maths students, so I've had the opportunity to benefit from university training and experience, including in teaching students with specific learning needs, so I'm confident we can work together to find the lesson style and structure which works best for you. If you think I might be a good fit for your tutoring lessons, I would be excited to hear from you and learn more about you, what your goals are, and what you hope to get from the lessons, so please don't hesitate to get in touch! If you choose to try some lessons, we will tailor their structure to your goals so we can cover the topics you most need help with. To master a topic memory can only get you so far, and it is better for exam preparation (as well as much more rewarding!) to build a good understanding. In order to achieve this, we will go through the fundamental ideas behind each topic, building our understanding with examples and intuitive and logical explanations. Once we've built a solid background, the best way to learn is by trying things yourself, so you would then try your hand at different problems with me guiding you in every step of the way. This process will also help us find areas we need to go over again, and by the end of the lesson I am certain this will boost your confidence in answering questions! Lastly, everyone has different ways of learning and practicing, and once we can adapt all the lessons to your needs to make sure that you get the most benefit out of your tutoring lesson. I think my favourite thing about being a tutor is transmitting my passion for the subjects I teach to my students. Many times, students can become convinced that maths or science simply 'isn't for them' or that they are not good at it, but in my experience with students this has never been the case! It was more of a question of an approach to learning that put students at a disadvantage. There is maths and science in everything we do, and I love tying lessons and concepts back to real life problems and my student's hobbies and interests, so they can not only get better at the maths, but learn about its uses. For example, have you ever noticed how there are sometimes small rainbows forming under the plastic panes of bus stops, or that a football kick which seems to be about to miss the goal can end up curving in, if the kick sets it spinning in the right direction? There are so many fascinating ideas covered in these subjects, and they all come into play in our lives in extraordinary ways, so I would love to share some of them with you during our lessons.
