A bit about Paddy D

Now tutoring after retiring from 35 years of school teaching as I love learning and sharing my enthusiasm. Being retired students will have my full and lively attention. ** 35 years of teaching Sociology A-level / GCSE (and GCSE History) including many years as Head of UCAS applications. Helpful expertise in exam/essay technique and memorisation of subject content. ** I pride myself in improving essay structure ("answer the question set!" etc.), exam technique as well as having unique memory aids for topics and their key details. ** For UCAS Personal Statements, I am happy to look at any rough drafts and help students to turn them into a genuine masterpiece! Happy to do as a free extra as I enjoy doing them. On top of Sociology, I was in sole charge of the whole UCAS process at my penultimate school, from 1993 to 2007. My rate is quite competitive (low!) as I enjoy teaching. Also, having retired, tutoring is great for me, too. Students always seem to enjoy sessions and make good progress - I have testimonials for students and parents to check this. I started tutoring in 2019, well before retiring as I knew that I would still want "the buzz" after 35 years of school teaching! Easy going, even amusing, but very knowledgeable and always pushing for the highest standards from each student. Quick feedback on any essay or other question answers that students give me. In fact, I am amazed that lots of A-level students have to wait often over a week for their teachers to return work - something that would not be tolerated if it was done with the work of Year 7 to 11 pupils. Sociology is so exciting with its links to society and daily life. The subject is endlessly fascinating as our world is always changing.
