A bit about Sumaya R

I am a fully qualified teacher with a Master’s degree in Primary Education and six years of teaching experience. I teach KS1 and KS2 and I specialise in STEM subjects, including Maths and Science. I love helping kids learn and grow. My lessons are fun and supportive, making it easy for my students to grow in confidence and enjoy learning! I specialise in STEM subjects, including Maths and Science. My goal is to make these areas engaging and enjoyable, helping students build confidence and succeed in their studies. My lessons are designed to be engaging and effective, typically structured as follows: Introduction (5-10 minutes): A quick review of previous material or a brief discussion to connect with the day's topic. Instruction (15-20 minutes): Clear explanation of new concepts using interactive methods and examples tailored to the student's level. Practice (20-25 minutes): Hands-on activities, exercises, or problems to apply the new concepts and reinforce learning. Review (5-10 minutes): Summarising key points, addressing any questions, and providing constructive feedback to guide further improvement. I first started tutoring while I was at university, about 7 years ago. What I love most about teaching STEM subjects is seeing the excitement and curiosity of students as they explore Maths and Science. Watching them grasp new concepts and solve problems with confidence is incredibly rewarding. It’s also fulfilling to help them develop a passion for learning and discover the real-world applications of what they’re studying. My teaching style is interactive and student-centred. I focus on making lessons engaging by incorporating hands-on activities, real-life examples, and creative problem-solving exercises. I adapt my approach to fit each student's unique learning needs, using positive reinforcement to build confidence and ensure a supportive learning environment. My goal is to make learning enjoyable and effective, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking My favourite thing about being a tutor is witnessing the moment a student truly understands a concept and the excitement that follows. It’s incredibly rewarding to see their confidence grow and to know I’ve played a part in their learning journey. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and inspired. I believe in fostering curiosity and a genuine love for learning by making lessons both relevant and enjoyable. My approach focuses on understanding rather than rote memorisation, encouraging critical thinking, and adapting instruction to meet each student’s unique needs. My goal is to build students’ confidence and empower them to take an active role in their education. Students love my teaching style because it’s engaging and tailored to their individual needs. They appreciate the interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and the way I make complex concepts easy to understand. My supportive approach and positive feedback help them feel confident and excited about learning. The greatest success I’ve had with teaching was seeing a student who initially struggled with Maths and lacked confidence, eventually excel and develop a genuine passion for the subject. Their progress and newfound enthusiasm were incredibly rewarding and affirmed the impact of tailored, supportive teaching. I hold a Master of Arts in Primary Education and have six years of teaching experience. These qualifications have equipped me with a deep understanding of effective teaching strategies and the ability to support students across all subjects, particularly in STEM areas. I was inspired to become a teacher by my own experiences with inspiring educators who made learning exciting and accessible. Their passion and dedication sparked my desire to help others discover the joy of learning and achieve their full potential. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, walking, and painting. These activities help me unwind and spark creativity, which I often bring into my teaching to make lessons more engaging and dynamic. I teach students across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, covering a range of subjects aligned with the national curriculum. I am familiar with various exam boards and tailor my teaching to meet the specific requirements of each board and year group.
