A bit about Shahbaaz S

I believe a good lesson should provide evidence of highly effective learning for every learner and a good teacher should strike that balance of engagement and motivation in the classroom, which is essential to develop cognitive skills and critical thinking in students. In 2005, I moved to China to take up medical studies.Throughout my university years, I regularly participated and organised language exchange clubs with Chinese students to help them improve their English. During my internship, the Head of the Department of clinical education offered me an opportunity to train the hospital staff in order to help them improve their medical English skills. Initially, my duties were limited to organising language salons and providing oral interpretation at the scientific conferences. Due to my proficiency in Mandarin and English the nursing staff requested the hospital to appoint me as a language coach , as few members of the staff were leaving China to participate in medical training in the US and Canada. Therefore, my responsibilities expanded and I started training the staff to enhance their knowledge of medical terminology. I also compiled a concise dictionary of medical terms with a book of expressions for communicating with patients. Furthermore , I also trained the staff to carry out routine medical procedures i.e.. CPR, ALS, BLS etc., in English and followed this up with doctor patient role-play where they practised their language skills in a clinical setup.  Overall, this was my first tryst with teaching as an informal instructor, which changed my perspective of the profession. As an instructor, I learned to use teaching resources, created learning materials, organized my own schedule and classroom, and provided critical feedback for improvement. My interest in teaching grew and I was eager to find new opportunities in education. Following graduation In 2013, I joined a Chinese educational company to teach local students who aspired to study abroad in English-speaking countries. My job was to teach them sciences and help them develop their academic English skills. I have a Bachelors degree in Clinical medicine and a Masters in Chinese Medicine, I have a level 4 diploma in Teaching and Due to start a PGCE in September 2021. I am an attentive and enthusiastic tutor with sound subject knowledge of physics, biology and chemistry. I have an undergraduate degree in Medicine and a Master's degree in Chinese medicine . with extensive knowledge of tutoring techniques and more than 8 years of teaching experience. I coach students to develop crucial exam techniques, build efficient revision habits, which help students to retain the subject for a longer period of time and allow them to apply the knowledge in the exams by triggering memory recalls. I am familiar with different learning styles and I have been able to tailor my teaching to fit the needs of my students and help them to get the grades they desire. My experiences include teaching A-level Biology to college students, and preparing the adult students for GCSE Sciences to access Higher education. Furthermore, I have taught early years, Primary and High school students in China for 8 years.
