A bit about Anna W

I am a kind, patient and passionate tutor with a BA in English Literature and an MA in creative writing. I take a kind and compassionate approach to teaching and work closely with pupils to tailor their sessions to ensure that they receive a memorable and effective learning experience. It is my goal to make English literature and language accessible and enjoyable for all and I can't wait to see you in my sessions! I live in the Wirral, UK with my partner and beloved pets. I am very much a homebody who loves to read books, write stories and poems, and watch TV and movies on the sofa. I am an English specialist and I have over 8 years experience in delivering a broad range of English qualifications. These include: English functional skills, English literature & language GCSE, A Level English literature and ESOL English. I am familiar with a range of examination boards such as AQA, Eduqas and Edexcel. I have worked in a variety of education settings as an English tutor since 2012. I spent 3 years working closely with 16-18 year olds in an FE college delivering English GCSE and English Functional Skills sessions. In this position I went through two Ofsted inspections and my lessons were observed as 'Outstanding' and 'Very Good'. I have also taught English to adults as part of work based learning programmes, supporting English as part of wider apprenticeship framework. In 2018 I decided to become a self-employed English tutor full time. Alongside my private clients, I am also contracted as an English language tutor supporting children in China to learn English online. I had a pupil who began learning English Language with me during the March 2020 lockdown. She had been graded as a 3 during her year 10 mock examinations and her parents felt concerned about her progress and the upcoming year 11 teacher-led assessments. After working with me for 12 months, in March 2021, she was graded as an 8 for her English Language. Her growth over the year was outstanding and I was so proud of her progress. Furthermore, in October 2022 I took on a home-schooled student with dyslexia and severe personal and social development issues. This student was struggling to achieve pass marks on his English language mock examinations and it was uncertain if he would achieve. In August 2023, he achieved a grade 5 for his English language and is now thriving at college.
