A bit about Richard D

My specialsim is A Level Chemistry a subject I have taught over numerous exam boards for 27 years. Rates will vary for more advanced tuition. Having recently retired as a Head of Science for the last 15 years of my 27 years teaching. My main exam board was AQA but have taught A level Chemistry through private tuition covering other exam boards such as OCR A and Edexcel. I have a passion for science and specialize in Chemistry. I have been a senior leader and middle manager for nearly 20 of my 27 years in teaching, so have to be organized and well motivated in and out of the classroom. Having taught in three very different secondary comprehensive schools, I have taught some very challenging classes with many disadvantaged and de-motivated youngsters. Having patience and resilience is vital when teaching such groups as well as never giving up on their education has resulted in some very impressive outcomes. Forging positive pupil relationships is so important to lead to success. Having good subject knowledge is vital. I can convey concepts to students in a manner that makes comprehension understandable. I have a calm and patient style of teaching that gives my students confidence to ask questions if unsure and make the session as productive as possible in a friendly and supportive climate. I studied an Engineering degree in Materials Technology and furtehr study for a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering IT. I then went on to undertake a PGCE in Secondary Science to embark on my teaching vocation. A decision I have not regretted. Being a tutor is immensely rewarding. To forge a one to one relationship with a student is incredible. It allows them to make even more progress than they may do in the classroom. Tutoring can allow students to have confidence to ask questions that they may find hard to ask in the classroom, in a safe and secure environment where no judgements are made. My aim is to empower students within the subject being taught.
