A bit about Aileen D

I have taught Science to KS3 and Chemistry A level AQA, EdExcel, CIE and Salters, Chemistry Baccalaureate and the Chemistry Element of Btec Science L3. Working in UK high schools, comprehensive schools, grammar schools and private educational establishments, and in a range of international schools in Nepal, Madrid, Borneo, Dubai and Saudi Arabia. My teaching strategies have always been founded on how our brain works, how we learn best, how to learn through humour, and practical experiments and demonstrations of the topics, and how we all do this differently and need to understand our own learning processes. My experience of teaching teachers furthered my insight into the pupils’ experiences of good and weak teaching and understand how to help students I am passionate about Chemistry. Understanding Chemistry gives a profound view of the world and everything in it. Enabling students to have those wow moments is the best part of teaching the subject. I have 20 years’ experience teaching students from all backgrounds; those who are the brightest and need the lightest touch, those who lack confidence in themselves and the subject, students whose first language isn’t English but who find the language of Science to be universal. My skills in enabling students to achieve higher grades than they expected, or was expected of them, led me to teaching teachers how best to engage students in the beauty of Science, and how to enable their students to succeed. Without exception my students have achieved pass rates that have increased the number of students pursuing the subject further, and consistently set new records for pass-rates and grades achieved, both in the schools I have worked in and those I have tutored privately. Working with me, you will begin by identifying where you are confident, where your gaps are and what you want to achieve; I will structure your learning so that you know at all times, the level you are working at and how to improve, helping you measure your improved confidence and knowledge, and build your success.
