A bit about Maya M

I’m a friendly tutor with several years of experience in science for GCSE and A-Levels here to help you smash your exams! I teach AQA, Edexcel and OCR. I enjoy helping students understand and connect with complex scientific concepts in a way that is intriguing and easy. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident in their abilities and excited about their progress. I specialise in teaching biology and chemistry, with a focus on helping students understand complex concepts in a clear and relatable way. I also break down challenging topics in science, making them accessible and engaging for students in any year. I am a climber! I enjoy indoor and outdoor bouldering. It is a fulfilling sport as each climb is a different puzzle that I have to figure out and at the same time it makes me stronger! I also enjoy running and reading. I have been tutoring for over 2 years. I started out with GCSE and then A-Level. The students! Each student is different so they bring something new to the lesson. The interactions with these students is very fulfilling as I love seeing them grasp a difficult concept. Helping students build confidence in their abilities is the best part of being a tutor. I can teach AQA, OCR, Edexcel. I can do primary school to sixth form (year 4 to year 13) I have 5 A*'s in GCSE Biology, Physics, Maths, English Literature and French. I have 3 A's in A level Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. The drive to help others. It fills me with joy when I see a student understand something they struggle with and when they can ace the test in the topic they used to get wrong. Because these achievements help build their character and allow them to reach any goals and aspirations they want A student of mine achieved their target grades of A*A*A at A-Level which meant they required the grades they need to get into their Russel group university with the course of their choice. Students appreciate a patience and collaborative approach. I work alongside them by guiding and helping instead giving answers. This allows them to take an active role in their learning which confidence and a deeper understanding of the topic. My teaching philosophy is about creating a supportive and engaging environment. I believe guiding students to think critically and solve problems independently is best! But at the same time, while providing patience and encouragement. Every student learns differently, so I change my approach to the student. I love teaching science, especially biology and chemistry. It helps students connect the world around them to the concepts they learn in class. Biology reveals the complexity of life, while chemistry shows the interactions at the molecular level. My teaching style is patient, collaborative and focused. I aim to guide students through the learning process, helping them develop problem-solving skills and build confidence. I encourage active participation and critical thinking so students understand the 'why' behind each concept. I tailor lessons to fit individual learning styles. Usually I check how my students week went, specifically in school so I can see anywhere they struggled in lesson to focus on later. I then dive straight into tutoring. If I am teaching a concept then I explain the mechanisms with visual aids and make sure they understand in a way that best for them. I also enjoy doing practice questions alongside the students. This test their knowledge as well as exam technique.
