A bit about Coralie S

Bonjour! I am a fully qualified French (native) and Spanish teacher and language enthusiast. I am currently teaching GCSE and A-level students in a Sixth Form College in Oxford (AQA and Edexcel examination boards). I love sharing and making accessible my knowledge of the French and Spanish languages and cultures (as many as there are French and Spanish speaking countries!). The courses I offer include GCSE and A-level preparation, university admission preparation, university undergraduate courses, and French for adult learners (all levels). I hold a PGCE in French and Spanish, with Qualified Teacher Status and a PhD in Language Science jointly awarded from my home university in Paris and the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain). Prior to the PGCE, I completed a Master’s degree in teaching French as a foreign language from the University of Grenoble. It allowed me to acquire and develop different language teaching methods centred on the five key competencies: reading, listening, writing, speaking and translation from / into French. Paired with a six-year experience of teaching French, I have developed efficient pedagogical techniques focussing on each student’s needs and goals. Each of my classes are tailored to address each student’s strengths and weaknesses. For the past three years, I have also been teaching French to adults (beginners, A1-level and intermediate, and B1-level) at the Department for Continuing Education at the University of Oxford. Prior to this, I taught for a year at the Alliance Française d’Oxford and for two years at the University of Oxford (grammar, grammatical and literary translation from and into French, oral practice, French essay (‘dissertation’) methodology, summary methodology). I have also been part of the admission process, and I can now help prepare students for university admissions. I am looking forward to hearing from you and to discussing your needs and goals. I first started tutoring French as a foreign language in September 2018 at the University of Oxford. Prior to this, I taught English and Spanish as a foreign language since 2008. Successfully preparing a student through the Oxford University's admission process was a highlight in my career. My lesson starts with a warm-up activity based on the topic/grammar aspect/language skill targeted in this lesson. Then main part of the lesson is organised around a variety of explanations and practice exercises targeting all five key competencies: reading, listening, writing essays, speaking and translation from / into English, as well as grammar. Each lesson will be a relevant part of the programme to prepare you for the exam you wish to excel in. Throughout the lesson, you are warmly invited to ask any questions you may have. Ideally, the language of the lesson would be the studied language. However, I am happy to revert to English whenever needed. I love witnessing my students grow, improve their language skills and gain self-confidence. Sharing my love for languages to them is what I love most about teaching French and Spanish. Year groups: 11, 12 and 13 GCSE exam board: AQA A-level exam boards: AQA, Edexcel and Edexcel International
