A bit about Sally L

My name is Sally and I live with my family in Wells. I have over 20 years of experience teachings maths and further maths at GCSE, A-level and IB. I focus on getting to know students and their relative strengths and weaknesses so that I can best support them to succeed. I believe in elastic potential and with provide support and challenge to overcome any difficulties. I specialise in mathematics and Further Mathematica both for GCSE and A-level. I have experience of teaching all modules at A-level and a variety of boards for GCSE and A-level. I understand what examiners are looking for and will automatically teach exam technique as part of tuition sessions. I recognise that every student has their own individual need and I tailor my tuition accordingly. Sometimes students will tell me in advance what they would like to look at in which case, I prepare a lesson with a wide range of questions and activities to support learning. More often than not students will tell me at the start of the lesson what they would like to focus on. I am really experienced so I am able to teach any topic with maths and further maths and I can provide a range of relevant questions to work through. I can also go though any problem questions with students or help them prepared for tests or public exams. I first started tutoring 8 years ago but I have been teaching for more than 20 years. During my time as a tutor and a teacher, I have developed a huge bank of resources that I can use to support students. I now tutor full time and support a wide range of students both in person and online. I enjoy getting to know new students and helping them to achieve their goals. Maths is a fantastic subject. It can be complex (maths Joke!) and sometime frustrating when you don’t understand but once you do understand you will see the beauty in it. Maths is all around us and a genuine understanding of the subject will change the way that you look at and interact with the world around you. I am calm, support but enthusiastic. I love my subject and want others to understand so that they can enjoy and apply the theory that they are learning. I seek to understand each individual student and tailor my teaching to their needs. My style will adjust according to the needs of each student. I love to meet new students and supporting them to achieve their goals. No two days are ever the same and I get to do maths all day long - I can’t really ask for anything more. Every child matters and every child can succeed. If they don’t understand first time, it needs to be explained differently. Education should be fun and it should be inclusive. Students should be given ownership of their learning and helped to appreciate that they can achieve. My calm yet enthusiastic approach. They also appreciate my dependability and my flexibility. I appreciate that live can be full on and sometimes plans have to change and that is fine. I also appreciate that sometimes you are feel a bit less confident than normal and need a bit more support. I will recognise this and adjust accordingly. Outstanding value added with all of my classes. I pride myself on the fact that I added significant value to every single class I ever taught. PhD Mathematics BSc Mathematics and education PGCE secondary I love maths, I love people and I love helping people to see the beauty of maths…the rest, as they say, is history! Running, walking, yoga, cards and board games All exam boards for GCSE and A-level and the IB.
