A bit about Marianne K

British born with French family connections, I was lucky to learn French from childhood. As a young adult, I lived in France and French Polynesia where I taught English and have a deep knowledge of the French language and culture. I took my PGCE in MFL in 2003 and have worked in both state and private schools delivering French at GCSE, A Level and on the IB programme. I also hold a Master's in translation and have taught translation skills workshops in schools. My specialist area is teaching French to GCSE, A Level and International Baccalaureate. I also teach translation skills. My other hat is as a storyteller from the oral tradition, so if you're interested in learning stories from deep time, I can help with that too! I will tailor lessons according to your needs as a learner of French. I have a great deal of experience teaching both children from as young as 7 right up to adults in their 70s. Usually I will include a little of each of the four main skills; listening, reading, speaking and writing in a lesson and be sure to explain grammar in a clear and coherent way. I also like to make lessons really fun and will incorporate games into these four skills areas. I have been tutoring in a variety of contexts on and off over the years since the mid 1990s. This has either been alongside my studies or work as a French teacher. I have tutored business English to French speakers, conversational French with adults, as well as providing support to teens taking their GCSE and A Levels. I love seeing my students grow in confidence and go out into the real world and have nourishing conversations with people that they wouldn't otherwise have been able to communicate with.
